Driver under the influence crashes into cemetery, overturning car and damaging gravestones
A 37-year-old woman from Morley was taken into custody on Saturday night following a car crash at Elmwood Cemetery in Cedar Springs. The incident resulted in damage to numerous headstones before the vehicle overturned. The Kent County Sheriff's Office indicated that the driver was charged with driving under the influence. It is believed that the use of drugs and alcohol played a role in the accident. Witness Nathaniel Madonna, who was returning home with his family after picking up ice cream, described how the driver lost control and hit several headstones before the car flipped over. Madonna and other bystanders rushed to assist the driver, who was able to exit the car on her own. Despite the significant damage caused to the cemetery, no individuals were harmed during the incident. Madonna reflected on the unpredictability of life and the preciousness of it, especially in times of unexpected events. The cemetery staff had started the process of repairing the damaged headstones by Tuesday.
