Driver ticketed after fatally striking pedestrian in Ontario County
Hopewell, N.Y. — A Farmington man has been ticketed following a fatal pedestrian crash outside the Econo Lodge on Routes 5 and 20 in Hopewell last week, according to the Ontario County Sheriff's Office. 67-year-old William J. Obernesser of the town of Rome failed to yield to traffic while crossing the roadway around 11:30 p.m. July 11, when he was struck by a pickup truck driven by 25-year-old Aaron Shahin of Farmington., the sheriff's office said. Obernesser suffered major internal injuries and was taken to F.F. Thompson Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. MORE: Pedestrian fatally struck by pickup truck in Ontario County Shahin was issued tickets Friday for improper plates, operating without insurance, operating an unregistered vehicle and operating an uninspected vehicle, the sheriff's office said. No criminal charges were announced.
