Driver taken into custody following deadly collision with elderly pedestrian, according to Miami law enforcement

Authorities have taken a man into custody following a tragic incident in Miami's Allapattah neighborhood where an 80-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed. The arrest, however, is reportedly unrelated to the fatal accident. The pedestrian was crossing outside of a designated crosswalk when the driver, identified as Darvis Cardenas Juarez, hit him with his gray Toyota Corolla early Monday morning. Police say the victim initially crossed the eastbound lanes before entering the westbound lanes without using a designated crosswalk, resulting in the collision. Cardenas Juarez cooperated with authorities at the scene but was then found to be driving without a valid license when asked for his driver's information. He was subsequently arrested for this violation. The deceased pedestrian's identity has not been disclosed by the City of Miami Police as his family is being notified.
