Driver punished for fiery Omaha crash resulting in four fatalities
After causing a tragic crash in Omaha that resulted in the deaths of four people, including her own three children, Rachel Bickerstaff has been sentenced to serve a total of 140 to 160 years in prison for four counts of motor vehicle homicide. The crash, which occurred in September 2024 near 10th and Douglas streets, claimed the lives of Michael Sales, 70, as well as the three children - a 5-year-old girl, an 18-month-old girl, and an 11-day-old girl. One other passenger in Bickerstaff's vehicle was critically injured in the incident. Bickerstaff, who was revealed to be the mother of all three children, pleaded no contest to the charges in March. Prosecutors disclosed that she was driving at extremely high speeds, reaching 139 mph just five seconds before the crash. Bickerstaff's blood alcohol content was found to be 0.216 at the time of the incident. Additionally, court documents indicated that she was charged with assault of a confined person in May for an altercation with a cellmate.
