Driver punished for accident causing deaths of 2 passengers in Mercer County

A driver in Mercer, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to four to 10 years in prison for causing a crash in May 2024 that resulted in the deaths of two individuals. Damion Gearhart, 26, of Transfer, was also given one year of state re-entry supervision and ordered to pay fines and restitution by the Mercer County Court of Common Pleas. The incident occurred when Gearhart, who was found to be driving under the influence with a BAC of .215%, crashed into a utility pole on Buckeye Drive in South Pymatuning Township. The two passengers in the car, David Helberg III, 25, and Brenton Tymchyshyn, 29, lost their lives in the accident. Officers discovered a case of beer outside the vehicle after the crash, contradicting Gearhart's statement that he only had a six-pack of Busch Light.
