Driver pleads guilty in fatal Park Tavern DWI accident

Steven Bailey, the Minnesota man accused in a fatal drunken driving crash at Park Tavern in St. Louis Park last year, has agreed to plead guilty to several charges on Wednesday morning. Bailey, 56, tragically crashed into a group of people on Park Tavern's patio on September 1, 2024, resulting in the deaths of Kristina Folkerts and Gabe Harvey, both 30 years old. He also injured 12 others, with five sustaining severe injuries. Bailey admitted guilt to two counts of third-degree murder and three counts of criminal vehicular operation, and will need to compensate all victims. He faces a potential sentence of up to 30 years in prison, with his sentencing set for July 28. Bailey's criminal record includes five prior convictions for driving under the influence dating back to 1985. The Minnesota Senate recently approved a bill strengthening DWI laws, proposing longer use of ignition interlock devices for repeat offenders like Bailey. The bill must now go through further legislative processes before reaching Gov. Tim Walz for approval.
