Driver of tow truck involved in deadly crash arrested
A Donna man has been taken into custody following a deadly collision on the expressway in Harlingen, as per the Texas Department of Public Safety. The incident occurred when David Zapata, 46, was securing a vehicle onto his tow truck on the shoulder of IH-2 east of FM 506 in Harlingen. Cristobal Stephan Garzez, 28, driving a Dodge Ram, struck Zapata after failing to slow down or move over for the tow truck. Garzez fled the scene but was apprehended nearby. He has been arrested on charges that include intoxication manslaughter, failure to slow down, failure to render aid, and possession of a controlled substance. The DPS is conducting further investigations into this tragic collision.
