Driver of Anthony Joshua Faces Charges in Nigeria Crash That Resulted in Two Deaths

A driver in Nigeria who was involved in a crash that claimed the lives of two passengers and injured boxer Anthony Joshua has been officially charged. The driver allegedly caused the accident by driving recklessly and without a valid national driver's license. Joshua, a renowned two-time world champion, was a passenger in a black SUV that collided with a parked truck near Lagos on Monday. Tragically, his friends and companions in the vehicle, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, lost their lives in the accident. Ghami served as Joshua's strength and conditioning coach, while Ayodele was a trainer and considered a close friend, often likened to a "twin brother" to Joshua. Prior to the crash, Joshua and Ayodele were seen enjoying a game of table tennis together in videos shared on social media. The driver of the SUV, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has been charged with multiple offenses including dangerous driving causing death, reckless driving, driving without due care and attention, and driving without a valid national driver's license. Kayode, 46 years old, made his court appearance at Sagamu Magistrate Court, with the trial scheduled to resume on 20 January. Following the tragic incident, Joshua, who holds both British and Nigerian citizenship, has been discharged from the hospital and is currently recovering at his residence in Nigeria. The professional boxer, along with his mother, paid their final respects to their departed friends at a funeral home in Lagos, as confirmed by Lagos state commissioner for information, Gbenga Omotoso on social media.
