Driver near University of Delaware indicted for murder in deadly crash
A driver has been charged with murder by a grand jury for a fatal crash near the University of Delaware campus in April. The driver, Gordon Turner, was accused of speeding in a stolen U-Haul van and causing the accident on Main Street. One of the victims was Marina Vasconcelos, a graduate student pursuing a doctorate in chemistry and biochemistry at the university. The incident occurred after police attempted to stop the stolen van, which had been reported missing, earlier that day. The driver fled and ultimately caused the deadly crash, injuring eight people. Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings emphasized that the tragedy could have been avoided and highlighted the dangers of fleeing from law enforcement. Turner was also wanted for crimes in multiple states prior to this incident.
