Driver near Grass Valley on Highway 20 hospitalized after rear-ending large truck
A driver sustained critical injuries in a series of accidents that caused traffic delays on Highway 20 in Nevada County Friday morning, as confirmed by officials. The California Highway Patrol was called to the area between Grass Valley and Penn Valley at 8 a.m. following a collision involving a Volkswagen and a semi-truck. A subsequent incident occurred as drivers attempted to navigate around the initial crash. Emergency responders had to extricate the driver of the Volkswagen, who was then airlifted to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. Two minor additional accidents took place in the resulting traffic congestion but did not result in serious injuries. Lane closures were necessary in both directions for approximately an hour. The CHP is reminding motorists to drive cautiously, remain attentive, avoid distractions, and heed guidance from emergency personnel.
