Driver killed in fiery overnight crash in Scott County
GEORGETOWN, Ky. (FOX 56) — A driver was killed in an overnight crash on Sunday in Georgetown, authorities said. According to the Scott County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded just after midnight on March 22 to a single-vehicle crash along Newtown Pike between U.S. 460 and Old Oxford Road. Investigators said a northbound Infiniti left the roadway for unknown reasons, struck a tree, and caught fire. The Scott County Coroner's Office pronounced the driver dead at the scene. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin. On a social media post from the sheriff's office, officials said that many drivers have stopped in the area of the crash to pay their respects to the victim. "Today, there have been many vehicles stop in this area to pay their respects, and that’s something we certainly appreciate," the post read. Officials said that the property owner agreed to offer a "pull-off area" where drivers can safely pay their respects. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
