Driver killed in crash on Route 44 in Pomfret
POMFRET, Conn. (WTNH) -- A driver has died following a crash on Route 44 in Pomfret on Thursday night, according to state police. The crash happened around 9:07 p.m., when a Subaru Crosstrek was traveling eastbound on Mashamoquet Road and veered onto the left lane over the double yellow lines into the westbound shoulder, state police said. The car struck a tree, continued down an embankment, and came to a stop on its roof before catching fire, according to state police. The driver of the vehicle has not yet been identified. The crash remains under investigation.
