Driver injured when police chase from Cicero ends in crash on Near West Side of Chicago
Two people were taken into custody after fleeing from police in Cicero and crashing on Chicago's Near West Side on Monday.Cicero police said around 3:30 p.m., officers initiated a routine traffic stop in the 4900 block of West 26th Street for the vehicle having tinted windows. After initially pulling over, the vehicle then fled the scene.Police said the officers did not pursue the vehicle, but deployed a tracking device and sent the information to neighboring agencies. Chicago police located the vehicle and attempted a stop. The vehicle eventually crashed on the Near West Side at Oakley and Madison around 3:40 p.m.CPD said a blue Hyundai Genesis sedan was headed west on Madison Street when it hit a black pickup truck headed north on Oakley Avenue. The sedan came to a stop against the wall of a nearby apartment building, while the truck went through a fence surrounding a nearby vacant lot.The 57-year-old man driving the pickup truck was injured and was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.Cicero police said two people were taken into custody, one of them being a known gang member.
