Driver indicted for fatal crash in Brooklyn that claimed lives of mother and her two daughters
The individual involved in the tragic crash that occurred in Midwood, Brooklyn last weekend, resulting in the loss of a mother and her two daughters, appeared in court last Thursday for a virtual arraignment due to still being in the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. The 32-year-old defendant did not enter a plea and the judge highlighted that the evaluation must be finalized before potential charges are presented to a grand jury. The individual faces multiple charges, including three counts of second-degree manslaughter, but her lawyer maintains her innocence. The judge denied bail, and the defendant remains in custody. The incident, which claimed the lives of Natasha Saada and her daughters Diana and Deborah, with her son Philip still in critical condition, involved the defendant colliding with them on Ocean Parkway near Quentin Avenue. The defendant has made various statements while in custody, and her attorney emphasized that she is not a flight risk, referencing her lack of previous encounters with the criminal justice system and her involvement in the community. Nonetheless, it has been revealed that prior to the crash, the defendant had a suspended license, numerous traffic violations, and outstanding fines. This tragic event has spurred discussions for lawmakers in Albany to consider implementing regulations mandating speed-limiting devices in the vehicles of repeat traffic offenders.
