
Driver in Lancaster County fatal crash was under the influence
According to court documents filed by East Lampeter Township Police, 31-year-old Luis Cruz is facing serious charges after a fatal crash that occurred on May 3 at the intersection of Willow Road and Horseshoe Road. The charges allege that Cruz, who was allegedly under the influence of drugs and alcohol, crashed into another vehicle, resulting in the death of 72-year-old Ralph Groff. Despite Cruz's initial claim that Groff had drifted into his lane, police state that evidence suggests otherwise, showing that Cruz crossed into Groff's lane and hit his vehicle head-on. Blood test results revealed the presence of THC and a compound related to cocaine in Cruz's system, although his blood alcohol content was below the legal limit. Police also found that Cruz's speed at the time of the crash was significantly higher than he initially stated. In addition to felony charges of homicide by vehicle while DUI and homicide by vehicle, Cruz faces multiple DUI charges and traffic violations. He has been released on bail pending further legal proceedings.
