Driver in fatal crash from City of Eden appears in court.
Michael Vernon, the driver of a City of Eden dump truck involved in a fatal accident in April, appeared before a judge where it was revealed by the district attorney that this was his seventh crash while driving a city vehicle. There was a significant legal argument in court between Vernon's attorney and the district attorney regarding the inclusion of certain evidence, like personnel records from the City of Eden. The district attorney pushed for the court to consider two key pieces of evidence. One was six crash reports spanning the seven years leading up to the April accident, with previous incidents resulting in property damage but no charges. The second was a 50-minute interview conducted in May with state troopers and Vernon about the April accident. Vernon's attorney disputed the relevancy of both pieces of evidence, but the judge decided to review them further before making a ruling. The next hearing is scheduled for Oct. 23.
