Driver in deadly I-75 wrong-way DUI crash was stopped by Collier County deputy hours before crash
New information confirms a woman who was arrested in a deadly wrong-way DUI crash on Interstate 75 in Collier County on Wednesday was stopped hours before the crash by a Collier County deputy.The Collier County Sheriff's Office said it's investigating the encounter between law enforcement and Genise Gardenia Taylor, 24, who was stopped by a deputy.CCSO said that a deputy stopped Taylor's vehicle for speeding early Wednesday morning, but did not specify a time.Taylor was later accused of driving the wrong way on southbound I-75 near mile marker 110, before crashing into Arthur Gilbert, 96, and another vehicle at 4:18 a.m.She told Florida Highway Patrol troopers that all she remembers was that "someone had hit her," according to the report.A blood test conducted on Taylor at the hospital at 5:45 a.m. showed a BAC of 0.213, which is nearly three times the legal limit.On Thursday, Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk said he has directed an internal affairs investigation to be conducted in accordance with state laws.The sheriff's office said it will release further information on the investigation when it is available.Taylor faces a single charge of DUI manslaughter at this time.
