Driver in critical redwood crash dies after succumbing to injuries

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (ABC4) -- The driver of a pickup truck that was involved in a critical crash on Redwood Road has died after succumbing to their injuries. In a press release given by the South Jordan Police Department, they announced that the driver had died in the hospital, without change in their condition since the crash that occurred in April 17. The name of the driver is being withheld in respect for the family's privacy. As it was reported on April 17, around 6:37 p.m. a truck hauling a trailer was traveling northbound on Redwood Road, approaching 9800 south. The pickup truck had been traveling south on Redwood when it attempted to make a left hand turned onto 9800 south. At this point, the truck hauling the tailer slammed into the pickup. The driver of the pickup was later taken to the hospital in critical condition. The driver of the truck hauling the trailer was not injured and stayed on scene to cooperate with investigators. At this time, SJPD tells ABC4.com that the crash remains under investigation, and the cause of the accident has not yet been determined. "The City of South Jordan offers its deepest sympathies and condolences to the family during this tragic time," SJPD said in a statement posted to Facebook. The investigation team that is investigating the crash is a part of the South Valley Crash Team, which is made of investigators from South Jordan, Herriman, and Riverton police departments. The crash came hours after another crash occurred in daybreak, where a driver crashed into Oquirrh Lake in the Daybreak Community. It was also announced today that the driver of that vehicle has also died from their injuries.
