
Driver held in relation to deadly Plaquemines Parish accident
In Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, a driver has been taken into custody following a collision that resulted in the death of a passenger from Gretna. The incident occurred on Louisiana Highway 39 near Water Plant Road early in the morning of October 1. State authorities reported that a GMC vehicle traveling south on LA 39 veered off the road and flipped over. The passenger, identified as 56-year-old Ryan Riley, sustained severe injuries and was declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the GMC, identified as 48-year-old Sherold Manuel, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Both Riley and Manuel were reportedly not wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. Manuel was subsequently found to have been driving a stolen GMC that was taken in New Orleans in August 2024. As of October 3, Manuel has been arrested in connection with the crash and is facing charges such as negligent homicide, possession of a stolen vehicle, careless driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, and other traffic violations.
