Driver flees attempted traffic stop, hitting police cruiser on West 117th; several individuals hospitalized
Multiple individuals were hospitalized following vehicle collisions on the border of Lakewood and Cleveland Tuesday morning, according to Lakewood police. The sequence of events unfolded when a Lakewood police officer made an attempt to pull over a vehicle on West 117th Street just north of I-90 around 8:10 a.m. The driver did not comply, resulting in a collision with another vehicle before the officer could report the incident. Both the driver and the officer involved in this initial collision were unharmed, although the officer was taken to the hospital for a check-up. The driver who fled from the Lakewood police later crashed into another vehicle at W 117th Street and Western Avenue in Cleveland. Cleveland police responded to this subsequent crash, with the Accident Investigation Unit handling the investigation due to severe injuries. Two individuals, a 51-year-old woman in stable condition and a 35-year-old man in critical condition, were transported to MetroHealth Medical Center by Cleveland EMS for treatment.
