Driver facing charges in drunken Brockton crash that claimed lives of 2 men, DA says
A driver is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in connection with an alleged drunken crash that claimed the lives of two men in Brockton, Massachusetts, last year.Mario Hernandez, 32, is being charged with motor vehicle homicide, operation under the influence of liquor and reckless operation of a motor vehicle in connection with the Nov. 14, 2025, crash.Police allege Hernandez was the driver of an Infiniti Q50 that collided with a box truck at the intersection of Centre and Quincy streets. First responders found the Infiniti engulfed in flames with the occupants trapped inside and the box truck flipped over on its driver's side. Occupants from both vehicles, including Spillane, were taken to area hospitals for medical treatment. Shane Spillane, 26, one of the passengers of the Infiniti, was taken to Boston Medical Center South, where he was pronounced dead. Another passenger, Justin Pratt, 24, died on Nov. 30, 2025, from injuries sustained during the crash.Surveillance footage from a nearby business showed the Infiniti travelling west on Centre Street, and the white truck travelling north on Quincy Street immediately prior to the crash, officials said. The footage shows the front of the Infiniti striking the driver's side of the white truck in the middle of the intersection, apparently causing the truck to overturn onto its side, officials said. The Infiniti becomes engulfed in flames following the collision. As a result of an ongoing Massachusetts State Police investigation, the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office applied for criminal charges against Hernandez on March 12 in relation to the deaths of Spillane and Pratt.Hernandez is set to appear in Brockton District Court.
