Driver facing charges for fatal DUI crash in SoMa, San Francisco

A driver in San Francisco is facing serious charges, including vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence, after a fatal accident in the city's South of Market district. The District Attorney's office reported that Manuel Diaz-Chi, 28, was formally charged in connection to the incident at the intersection of 10th and Folsom streets. The charges against Diaz-Chi include vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI causing injury, and driving with a blood alcohol level exceeding the legal limit. Prosecutors allege that Diaz-Chi, who had been drinking heavily, struck a woman at the intersection while driving a Mazda van. The victim was fatally injured and dragged under the van for a block before being discovered by authorities. Diaz-Chi showed signs of intoxication to police and a breath test revealed a blood alcohol level well above the legal limit. At a bail hearing, prosecutors requested Diaz-Chi be detained pending trial, and bail was set at $80,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.
