Driver facing additional charges following death of crash victim

A man who was initially arrested for suspected DUI after a crash that resulted in serious injuries now faces additional charges as the victim has sadly passed away. The collision occurred late in the evening on August 21 near 9th Street and T Street in Sacramento, involving two vehicles. One driver suffered life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized in critical condition, while the other driver had minor injuries. Following an investigation, Richard Newman, 33, was found to be driving under the influence and causing the crash. He was arrested and taken into custody on charges related to DUI and causing significant harm. Tragically, on September 11, the critically injured driver succumbed to their injuries. Newman, who has been in jail since his initial arrest, will now face additional charges related to vehicular manslaughter. The case is still under investigation, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Sacramento Police Department or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers to provide details anonymously and potentially receive a reward.
