Driver faces OWI charge after car collides with Racine school
An Oak Creek man is facing charges after allegedly driving under the influence and crashing into Racine's Olympia Brown Elementary School in the early hours of Tuesday morning. William Diebold, 23, is accused of obstructing an officer and operating a vehicle while intoxicated in what would be his second offense if convicted. His bond was set at $1,000 following the crash that resulted in damage to the school. Diebold, who was also on probation for a previous conviction, admitted to police that he was not paying attention and was driving recklessly. Authorities noted signs of intoxication, and subsequent tests confirmed he was over the legal limit. He initially claimed there was no passenger in the car, but investigations revealed otherwise, with the passenger sustaining minor injuries.
