Driver faces charges in fatal I-24 crash; police searching for two hit-and-run suspects
Authorities report that a 28-year-old man is facing charges for vehicular homicide following a tragic multi-vehicle accident on I-24 that resulted in the death of a 51-year-old woman early Sunday morning. John Baudendistel has been accused of vehicular homicide by intoxication after crashing into the victim's Nissan Sentra on I-24 East near the Bell Road exit. Sadly, the woman succumbed to her injuries after being transported to Vanderbilt Hospital. It is suspected that the victim had slowed down to avoid an initial collision between two other vehicles, whose drivers fled the scene on foot. Baudendistel, who had red, glossy eyes and slurred speech, confessed to drinking before driving, and an open container was found in his car. He has been released on a $25,000 bond. Authorities are still looking for the drivers of a 2015 Subaru Crosstrek and a 2003 Honda Accord who left their vehicles after the initial incident. Investigators found signs of alcohol involvement in both abandoned cars. Anyone with information on these hit-and-run drivers is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Remember, callers can choose to remain anonymous and might be eligible for a cash reward.
