Driver faces charges in fatal high-speed crash on I-57 near Markham
A man has been accused of reckless homicide, stemming from a deadly high-speed collision that resulted in the loss of two lives near Markham, Illinois last year. The Illinois State Police have stated that a 20-year-old individual named Demitreaun Ross, hailing from Chicago Heights, faces charges including reckless homicide, failure to report a fatal accident, and criminal trespass to a vehicle. Prosecutors in Cook County have alleged that Ross was driving over 100 mph in a stolen vehicle on January 29, 2025, swerving through traffic on the northbound lanes of I-57 when he collided with two other cars, causing the stolen vehicle to overturn. This led to several people being ejected from their cars, resulting in two fatalities, identified as Terry Felder and Antionette Nelson. In addition, two individuals sustained injuries in the incident. Following the collision, Ross fled the scene and neglected to inform authorities. Subsequently, DNA evidence aided in his identification as the responsible driver. During his initial court appearance last Saturday, a judge ordered him to remain in custody until his trial, with the next court date scheduled for Tuesday in Markham.
