Driver dies, two LAFD members injured in Pacoima collision

One person was killed and two Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters were injured when their truck collided with another car in Pacoima on Sunday morning. The crash happened at around 10:45 a.m. in the 13000 block of W. Terra Bella Street and San Fernando Road, according to a press release from LAFD. "They were responding lights and sirens in the incident — all the information surrounding this is still under investigation with exactly what direction and where the vehicle were parked at that time," said LAFD Captain Cody Weireter.For unknown reasons, a Toyota Corolla collided with the fire truck at the intersection and the driver was rushed to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The victim, who has only been identified as a man in his 20s, died shortly after arrival.Los Angeles police investigating the incident say that the LAFD truck was en route to a fire call when the collision happened. "With these investigations, all the personnel have to be interviewed and we have yet to do that at this point," said LAPD Captain Alex Chogyoji.Two firefighters were also taken to the hospital with what were considered non-life-threatening injuries.Video from the scene shows the aftermath of the crash, just outside of Whiteman Airport. The Toyota suffered severe damage to its front end, while the LAFD truck also appeared to have sustained considerable damage. A panel from the sedan appeared to be stuck to the truck's front grill. Witnesses say that a good Samaritan rushed to try and help the driver out of the Toyota before he was taken to the hospital.
