Driver dies after truck goes airborne, flips on U.S. 71 Highway in Kansas City

A man was killed Wednesday morning in a crash on U.S. 71 Highway in Kansas City. Police responded to the crash around 11:45 a.m. in the area of 85th Street and 71 Highway. Police say a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling northbound on U.S. 71 from Bannister Road when the driver left the roadway near the Rock Ridge Quarry and entered a grassy median. The driver tried to regain control of the vehicle, but it went down a concrete embankment separating the highways. The truck then went airborne, struck a guardrail and flipped over. The victim died at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, which remains under investigation.
