Driver dies after Freightliner catches fire in Pecos County
PECOS COUNTY — One man died following a crash in which the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Raunel Pinero-Dieguez, 51, of San Antonio, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. DPS said the fatal crash occurred about 7 a.m. March 27 along the Interstate 10 frontage road at mile marker 314. Preliminary information from the DPS report indicates a 2015 Freightliner with a towed trailer was traveling westbound on I-10 near mile marker 314. For unknown reasons, DPS said, the driver of the Freightliner failed to maintain its lane, causing it to veer off the roadway into eastbound traffic on the frontage road, where it struck a fence. DPS said the Freightliner then became fully engulfed in flames. The crash remains under investigation. No additional information has been released.
