Driver detained following deadly accident in Richmond

In Richmond over the weekend, a tragic incident occurred resulting in a driver being taken into custody after a fatal crash. Richmond Police Department shared in a social media update that they responded to a single-vehicle accident at the intersection of Sim Hodgkin Parkway and Bridge Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found a severely damaged blue Honda Civic with 48-year-old Christopher Kennedy trapped inside. Despite efforts by the Richmond Fire Department and medics, Kennedy succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Reid Health. Through their initial probe, authorities determined Kennedy was a passenger in the Civic during the crash, with 27-year-old Billy Goodwin identified as the driver who reportedly fled the scene on foot. Following an extensive search, Goodwin was located at a residence and detained without issue. He now faces multiple charges, with the investigation ongoing. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the Richmond Police Department. Chief Kyle Weatherly expressed condolences to the Kennedy family and emphasized the importance of accountability, particularly in cases where individuals neglect their responsibility to assist in such situations. The charge of leaving the scene of a fatal crash carries serious consequences in Indiana, including a potential prison term of up to six years and a fine reaching $10,000.
