Driver charged with reckless homicide in teenager's death after Racine crash

A man from Racine is facing charges including reckless homicide in connection with a tragic crash that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old girl and injuries to four other individuals. The incident occurred on March 9 when a Racine County deputy observed a Chevrolet Camaro driving at a speed exceeding 90 mph in a 35 mph zone near 16th and Deane. Upon attempting to catch up with the speeding vehicle, the deputy lost sight of the Camaro and later discovered a collision involving the Camaro and a Chevrolet Impala at 16th and Taylor. Surveillance footage captured the moment of impact, showing the Camaro rear-ending the Impala, resulting in sparks, flames, and debris scattering as the Impala was propelled through the intersection. The Camaro ignited into flames at the crash site. Tragically, the driver of the Impala, identified as 17-year-old Tyreana Scales, sustained critical injuries and later passed away on March 11, while four juvenile passengers in the Impala suffered various injuries. The driver of the Camaro, identified as 34-year-old Salvador Coronado, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, is now facing charges that include first-degree reckless homicide and five counts of endangering safety through reckless behavior. Police discovered a bottle of liquor in the Camaro after the accident and collected a blood sample for evidence. Court records indicate that Coronado has a history of traffic-related violations, including previous offenses such as OWIs, speeding, reckless driving, and fleeing and eluding.
