
Driver charged in fatal Upshur County car accident
A man in Buckhannon, West Virginia has been accused of driving under the influence of "medical marijuana" and causing a fatal accident in Upshur County. The incident occurred on April 7 at the intersection of U.S. Rt. 33 and Kesling Mill Road. Witnesses reported that the man, identified as 27-year-old Mathew Whitehead, was driving recklessly and ran a red light before colliding with another vehicle, resulting in the death of one individual. Deputies found Whitehead with bloodshot eyes and a flushed face, and inside his vehicle, they discovered drug paraphernalia containing a green leafy substance. Whitehead admitted to smoking medical marijuana before driving and has been charged with DUI causing death and serious bodily injury.
