Driver charged in death of Oakland County road worker and father of 6
Several months following the tragic incident where an Oakland County road worker lost his life due to being struck by a wrong-way driver in Farmington Hills, the motorist has been charged with three offenses. The woman, aged 59, was formally accused on Wednesday in connection to the fatal collision. The accident occurred in July, resulting in the death of a father of six who was part of an Oakland County road crew being hit by a driver near Misty Pines Drive. Although the driver was heading the wrong way down Orchard Lake Road in Farmington Hills, the road crew had taken appropriate safety measures with lights and cones to alert drivers of their maintenance work, according to Farmington Hills police at the time. The suspect, Kimberly Taylor, turned herself in to the authorities after a three-count warrant was authorized by the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office. Taylor was arraigned on Nov. 19, facing one felony charge of moving violation causing death in a work zone, along with two misdemeanor counts of moving violation causing injury in the same work zone. Following her appearance in the 47th District Court before Judge James Brady, she was released on a $5,000 personal bond. Farmington Hills Police Chief John Piggott expressed gratitude to the victims' families for their patience and mentioned that the investigators had diligently worked on the case to uncover the circumstances of the tragic crash. Piggott expressed hope that the arrest and subsequent legal proceedings bring some solace to the families, ensuring that justice would prevail through the court system.
