Driver charged for causing fatal Westfield accident due to reckless behavior, DUI, and other offenses
WESTFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) -- A driver is now facing multiple felony charges, including reckless homicide, after a tragic crash in Westfield Friday night that resulted in the deaths of two people and left two others hospitalized. The incident occurred at 7 p.m. on West Lincoln Street near South Division Street. State Police had previously informed WCIA that a van traveling eastbound crossed the center line and collided head-on with a westbound truck carrying four individuals. Tragically, two passengers in the truck, identified as a Coles County board member and his wife, were pronounced dead at the scene, while the remaining passengers sustained life-threatening injuries and were transported to a hospital. The driver, identified as 34-year-old Edwin Pacheco-Meza of Indianapolis, Ind., has been charged and is currently held in Clark County Jail pending further legal proceedings. Additionally, ISP issued eight tickets to Pacheco-Meza following the crash. The condition of the hospitalized passengers remains unknown as the investigation by ISP continues.
