Driver blames car malfunction for deadly South Boston crash.
The attorney representing a man accused of causing a fatal accident in South Boston by driving under the influence stated that the car had a malfunction. Francisco Romero, facing multiple charges including OUI manslaughter in court this week, allegedly hit and killed 27-year-old Noah Greany while the victim was crossing the street in January. According to the prosecution, Romero was speeding and swerved across lanes before striking Greany. Prosecutors claim Romero was intoxicated at the time of the incident, which involved his car crashing into a bar after hitting Greany. Romero's defense attorney argued that Romero had only consumed a few drinks the night before and experienced a car malfunction the next day while heading to work. Romero's partner, Carla, expressed sympathy for the victim's family, stating that only God knows Romero's intentions. Outside the courthouse, Greany's relatives mourned his loss and shared their plans to create the Noah Curtis Greany Foundation to honor his ambition of finding a cure for cancer. Romero remains in custody with a $100,000 cash bail and is scheduled for a court hearing on May 2.
