Driver avoids jail time for forging DMV paperwork
In Buffalo, New York, a man named Mohammed Tanbir was sentenced to five years of probation for falsifying documents related to his vehicle registration, according to the Erie County District Attorney's Office. In the tragic incident, Tanbir hit and caused the death of 21-year-old Sydney Lohr as she was crossing Elmwood Avenue after work in July 2023. Lohr, a student at St. Lawrence University, passed away in the hospital following the accident. It was discovered during the investigation that Tanbir had provided fake information to the DMV to legally tint his windows by claiming a medical exemption in 2020, 2021, and 2022. While officials concluded that the tinting did not play a role in the crash, the family's attorney disagreed. Tanbir had previously pleaded guilty to three charges of possessing forged instruments earlier this year.
