TAYLORSVILLE, Utah - A total of seven individuals were hospitalized following a collision in Taylorsville on Sunday, as reported by Taylorsville Police. Among them, one person bit the arm of a Utah Highway Patrol trooper. The incident occurred just before 1:15 p.m. on July 27, when law enforcement was called to a crash at 2550 West 4700 South near the entry onto I-215. A Utah Highway Patrol trooper, waiting at a traffic light to turn southbound onto I-215, witnessed a white Cadillac running a red light, crashing into a Dodge 1500 pickup truck, and causing both vehicles to veer off the road onto a hill at the entrance. The trooper immediately rendered aid, and additional officers arrived at the scene. The Cadillac driver had to be extracted from the vehicle by officers after it caught fire. The driver exhibited violent behavior and attempted to flee following the extraction. Multiple officers had to restrain the driver, who reportedly bit the trooper's arm during the scuffle. The trooper, along with those involved in the collision, was transported to the hospital. Five occupants of the Dodge pickup suffered injuries and required extraction from the vehicle. They were also taken to the hospital for treatment. The aggressive driver who bit the trooper is reportedly dealing with a possible brain injury. The crash led to a power outage at the intersection, and authorities are currently working on restoring power.
