Driver arrested for OWI after crashing car into Racine school
In the early hours of July 29th, a car crashed into Olympia Brown Elementary School in Racine. A 23-year-old male driver was taken into custody for driving while intoxicated (OWI). The incident occurred around 2:19 a.m. after a witness noticed a vehicle heading towards the school and then heard a loud crashing noise. The car hit the school building, broke through an outer wall, and entered a classroom before proceeding into an adjacent classroom, causing damage to both rooms. The collision resulted in significant damage to the school property. Police from Caledonia mentioned that alcohol and speed were likely contributing factors to the accident. The driver, a 23-year-old resident of Racine, was arrested for OWI and several other offenses following the investigation, which determined it was a single-vehicle crash and thankfully, no injuries were reported.
