
Driver arrested for drunk driving following deadly collision with motorcyclist: Austin PD
On June 12th, a driver who was believed to be under the influence of alcohol collided with and killed a motorcyclist in Austin, as reported by the Austin Police Department. The incident occurred at approximately 9 p.m. on South Pleasant Valley Road, resulting in the death of the motorcyclist, Eliasib Cortes Vargas, aged 34, after being taken to the hospital. The driver, Thomas Ajanel Chan, aged 54, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, with additional charges pending. This marks the 43rd fatal crash and the 47th traffic fatality in Austin in 2025, compared to 34 fatal crashes and 35 deaths recorded by the same time in 2024.
