Driver arrested for causing fatal collision with police officer and another person.
A man was arrested for suspicion of DUI following a tragic crash on Interstate 8 that took the lives of a La Mesa police officer and another driver. The suspect, Antonio Alcantar, was confirmed to be the DUI suspect by the California Highway Patrol. The incident, which occurred earlier this week, resulted in Officer Lauren Craven and a 19-year-old driver named DeVeonte Lavell losing their lives. Alcantar, who was driving the vehicle that struck them, was taken to the hospital with injuries and later arrested. A procession was held in honor of Officer Craven, starting at the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office and ending at El Camino Memorial Park.
