Driver arrested by Louisiana State Police following fatal accident in Jefferson Parish
Louisiana State Police arrested a man in connection to a fatal accident that occurred in Jefferson Parish on Friday afternoon. The incident took place at around 1 p.m. when Teodoro Leiva Gomez, 37, and a passenger were traveling west on Jefferson Highway near Labarre Road. Gomez lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and collided with an electrical pole, resulting in the death of the passenger. The victim's identity is being withheld until their next of kin has been informed. Gomez, who sustained minor injuries, was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Police determined that Gomez was impaired at the time of the crash and subsequently arrested him. Charges pressed against him include vehicular homicide, DWI, and other traffic-related offenses. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
