Driver airlifted to trauma center following Gales Ferry collision
A driver is currently receiving treatment at a trauma center following a crash that took place in Gales Ferry, Ledyard on Saturday night. The local fire department reported that the accident happened around 8:00 p.m. in the vicinity of Stoddards Wharf Road and Goulart Road. Upon arrival at the scene, emergency responders discovered the vehicle off the road and into the woods, with an occupant trapped and unresponsive. Firefighters worked to secure the car using tools like chains and a grip hoist, and initiated the extrication process after stabilizing the vehicle. By removing the roof and windshield, firefighters were able to reach the occupant, who was then airlifted by Life Star helicopter to a trauma center. The incident is currently being investigated by the Ledyard Police Accident Reconstruction Team, leading to the closure of Stoddards Wharf Road between Goulart Road and Route 117 for further investigation.
