
Driver accused of DUI following fatal collision on I-385 in Greenville, according to police
A driver is facing felony DUI charges following a fatal collision on Sunday evening on I-385 in Greenville, South Carolina. Greenville Police Department reported that the incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of I-385 southbound and Roper Mountain Road involving a white Audi and a dump truck. The crash resulted in the tragic death of the dump truck driver, identified as 58-year-old David Mather Whitehead Sr. of High Point, North Carolina. The Audi's passenger sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Greenville Memorial Hospital. The driver of the Audi, 32-year-old Joan Esteban Velez, has been charged with felony DUI causing death and great bodily harm, as well as an open container violation. Investigation details and accident reconstruction efforts were ongoing as of Monday morning.
