Driver accused of causing deadly crash on Hwy 178 due to suspected intoxication
A 27-year-old woman in Bakersfield, California is facing serious charges after she allegedly drove drunk and crashed into a parked car on Highway 178, resulting in the death of one person and injuring another. Hisa Ann Castillo entered a not guilty plea this week for charges including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and two counts of DUI causing injury. She also faces a misdemeanor charge for driving with a suspended or revoked license. Castillo is currently held on $700,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court again on June 27. The accident occurred in the early hours of June 13 on Highway 178 near the Beale Avenue exit. According to the California Highway Patrol, Castillo's Hyundai Santa Fe struck a Saturn Ion parked on the shoulder of the highway. One of the car's occupants, Alejandro Marix Manriquez-Chavez, 23, was fatally injured, while the other occupant survived. Castillo, who sustained minor injuries in the crash, was taken into custody later that morning. Records show that Castillo had previously pleaded no contest to charges of child stealing and battery last year.
