Driver accused in fatal I-24 crash distracted by phone

A Murfreesboro man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for his involvement in a fatal multi-vehicle accident last year on Interstate 24 near the Rutherford County line. The crash took place when a Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Tyler Watson, 28, collided with a Toyota Solara and two other vehicles stopped in traffic. Tragically, 39-year-old Daniel Roberts, the driver of the Solara, lost his life in the crash, while three others sustained minor injuries. Watson was found to have been distracted on his cell phone at the time of the accident but showed no signs of impairment. He has been charged with various offenses including vehicular homicide and reckless aggravated assault. Watson has been released on a $25,000 bond after his arrest this week.
