Driver accused in fatal Brady Street collision to appear in court Monday
A 22-year-old driver is set to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Monday after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase and crashing into a Lyft vehicle. Cera Wilkerson is facing various charges, including vehicle operator fleeing from an officer resulting in the death of another individual and second-degree homicide. The incident occurred on July 29 when Wilkerson reportedly refused to stop her vehicle despite police attempting to pull her over near West North Avenue and North Teutonia Avenue. Prosecutors claim Wilkerson drove recklessly, nearly hitting a pedestrian during the pursuit, and ran a red light before colliding with another vehicle at the intersection of Humboldt and Brady. The driver of the other vehicle, 28-year-old El Moctar Sidiya, was tragically killed in the crash. A passenger in Sidiya's vehicle suffered severe injuries, including seven broken ribs and a collapsed lung. If found guilty on all counts, Wilkerson could potentially be sentenced to over 64 years in prison.
