
Driver accused in crash that resulted in the death of Olathe teen trying to aid another motorist
A 49-year-old man is facing charges for an incident in 2024 where he allegedly struck and killed a 17-year-old who was trying to help someone in need on the highway and then fled the scene. Matthew Thomas Bray has been charged with various offenses, including driving under the influence and leaving the scene of the accident causing serious harm. The Johnson County District Attorney’s Office made the announcement about the charges. The crash occurred on July 27, 2024, resulting in the tragic death of 17-year-old Benjamin Van Buskirk from Olathe, Kansas. Bray is currently in custody with a $25,000 bond, and his next court appearance is set for August 27. The Kansas Highway Patrol and Merriam Police Department collaborated to investigate the incident and ultimately apprehend Bray.
