SAN BENITO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that involved a semi-trailer. At noon on Saturday, April 19, authorities responded to a two-vehicle crash on FM 1421 and Road 233. A preliminary investigation revealed a blue Chevrolet Aveo, occupied by a male driver, was going southbound on FM 1421 approaching Road 233, a news release from DPS stated. A red Kenworth truck tractor semi-trailer was going southbound behind the blue Chevrolet. The driver of the Aveo, identified as a San Benito resident, 70-year-old Lorenzo Guajardo, was taken to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the semi-trailer, identified as a Mexican resident, 39-year-old Luis Fernando Gonzalez Altamirano, was arrested and charged with criminal negligent homicide. Altamirano was booked at the Carrizalez Rucker Detention Center, where he is pending arraignment. This is an ongoing investigation.
