DPS identifies victims killed in Highway 96 crash just south of Jasper

The Texas Department of Public Safety identifies the two people killed in Monday's crash on Highway 96 as Carolyn Brewster, 79, of Buna, and James Pedigo, 65, of Weatherford. The DPS preliminary crash investigation indicates that shortly before 2 p.m. Monday, a Volkswagen SUV was traveling north and a Dodge pickup was traveling south. It is reported that the Volkswagen crossed over into the oncoming lane and collided with the Dodge near County Road 296, about 500 feet south of the city limits of Jasper. The driver of the Volkswagen, identified Carolyn Brewster, died at the scene. The driver of the Dodge, identified as 65-year-old Debra Pedigo of Weatherford, was transported to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Her passenger, identified as 66-year-old James Pedigo of Weatherford, died at the scene. The DPS says this is an ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time.
