Dozens of vehicles collide on I-90 in Chautauqua County

Multiple crashes occurred on the I-90 between Dunkirk and Westfield, leading to the closure of all westbound lanes. Tractor-trailers jackknifed and passenger vehicles were also impacted. Westbound traffic was redirected at Hamburg, causing congestion. The Fredonia Fire Department reported approximately 60 vehicles involved in accidents spanning 6 miles. Despite the chaotic situation, only two individuals suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The storm resulted in whiteout conditions and heavy snowfall in Chautauqua and Erie Counties, prompting travel advisories. Local schools were closed, and SUNY Fredonia delayed the start of the spring semester. The Mayor of Fredonia rescheduled a village board meeting due to the inclement weather.
